Parking Garage Demolition Ontario

Location 388 Carlaw, Toronto, Ontario

Project Type Demolition

Project Highlights Completed ahead of schedule, recycled concrete, prioritized safety

Parking Garage Demolition

388 Carlaw is a parking garage structure that was rendered unsafe due to years of salt erosion. Bedrock Excavating was commissioned to demolish the full slab, paving the way for the construction of a new parking garage.

Situated next to a train track, frequent vibrations caused by passing trains added a layer of complexity to the working conditions. The tight height restrictions necessitated the use of mini excavators, inevitably slowing the demolition process.

Through meticulous planning and rigorous safety measures, Bedrock Excavating completed the project ahead of schedule.

Parking Garage Backfill Ontario project

Parking Garage Backfill

Location 25 Mabelle, Toronto, Ontario

Project Type Backfill

Project Highlights Reused clean fill, fixed drainage, reopened parking garage

Located at 25 Mabelle in Toronto, Ontario is a newly constructed three story underground parking garage. Bedrock Excavating was tasked with connecting a new weeping tile and backfilling around the newly constructed ramp to align with existing grade height.

For trucks and machines to access the site, they were required to drive across a suspended slab. To make this possible, the parking garage was shorn up from parking level 3 to parking level 1, enabling the creation of an access road atop the roof deck. This involved meticulous planning to ensure even distribution of weight across the entire structure while integrating the new weeping tile system. Despite the complexities involved, Bedrock Excavating successfully executed the project, overcoming challenges such as maneuvering heavy machinery on the suspended slab.

project shoreline protection & CUSTOM RESIDENTIAL PIER

Shoreline Protection

Location Private Residential (Meaford, Ontario)

Project Type Shoreline Protection and Custom Pier Design and Construction

Project Highlights Recycled concrete, reuse of boulders, creation of safer shoreline access

After years of having issues with their waterfront property, a residential owner sought out Bedrock Excavating for a comprehensive restoration of the shoreline, along with the installation of a custom pier.

With a commitment to high quality work, Bedrock Excavating carefully designed a shoreline and pier. Using recycled slabs of concrete, Bedrock formed a stable foundation for machinery access. Boulders were arranged and interlocked with recycled concrete to construct the pier, which was then topped with clear stone and a polished concrete slab for a refined finish.

As a result of Bedrock Excavating's efforts, this transformation enhanced the property's aesthetic appeal, functionality and ensured peace of mind for the homeowners.

project asphalt removal Toronto

Asphalt Removal

Location Toronto Metropolitan University, International Living Centre, Toronto, Ontario

Project Type Asphalt Removal

Project Highlights Asphalt removal, efficient traffic control, recycling of asphalt

Partnering with Toronto Metropolitan University, Bedrock Excavating undertook a significant project at one of its key student residencies, the International Living Center.

The task at hand involved the removal of asphalt, presenting unique challenges due to the site's bustling pedestrian activity and limited space for maneuvering.

Bedrock implemented traffic control measures to ensure the safety of all involved. By strategically scheduling dump trucks for asphalt pickup and carefully coordinating activities, Bedrock optimized the removal process despite the constraints. Managing the continuous flow of pedestrian traffic amidst the removal process presented a challenge. However, Bedrock's commitment to elevated safety standards, combined with thorough planning and organization, resulted in a successful execution with minimal disruption.

Environmental Cleanup

Location Johnny B’s Automotive & Car Care, 452 Sykes Street N, Meaford, Ontario

Project Type Soil Remediation

Project Highlights Soil testing, traffic control, safe removal and disposal of contaminated soil

Johnny B’s Automotive & Car Care, a well-known and respected shop in Meaford, Ontario, faced a devastating setback in May 2023 when a tragic fire burnt the establishment to the ground. Determined to rebuild the family owned and operated shop, the owner, John Bulsink, immediately began cleanup of the land. Once the debris was cleared, Bedrock was brought in for soil remediation. Bedrock provided soil tests, facilitated the removal of contaminated soil from the site, and ensured its delivery to a designated contaminated fill site. The unpredictable weather of Toronto’s winter months made the task more difficult, fluctuating between freezing temperatures and thawing conditions, the soil became alternately frozen and muddy, posing significant challenges to the removal process.

Bedrock Excavating’s readiness to adjust to changing conditions enabled them to navigate the complexities of the soil removal process efficiently. Despite the weather-induced delays, Bedrock's dedication ensured that the task was completed swiftly, facilitating commencement of rebuilding for Johnny B’s Automotive & Car Care.
